My Post School Future

Looking ahead, I’m really interested in pursuing a career that lets me keep working with my hands and solving technical problems. Engineering—particularly mechanical or civil engineering—really appeals to me.

Certificate II in Engineering Pathways at Tafe SA

The Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (MEM20422) at TAFE SA is a practical, entry-level qualification designed to introduce students to the engineering and manufacturing industries. This nationally accredited course provides hands-on experience and foundational knowledge, making it ideal for those seeking apprenticeships, traineeships, or work in a range of engineering support roles.

Over approximately three months of full-time study, students gain essential skills in using hand and power tools, interpreting technical drawings, operating workshop machinery, and applying workplace safety procedures. The course includes 12 units: 4 core units and 8 electives, focusing on practical and safety-related aspects of engineering. Students also learn how to work effectively in teams, a key requirement in industrial settings.

This course is delivered on campus across multiple TAFE SA locations, including metropolitan and regional centres. It is open to all applicants and often taken by school students as part of a VET program. Some students may be eligible for subsidised training or Fee Free TAFE under government-funded initiatives.

Graduates of this program are well-prepared for roles such as trade assistants, production workers, and apprentices in mechanical, fabrication, and electrical engineering trades. It also provides a solid foundation for further study, including the Certificate III in Engineering qualifications.
