Work Experience in Year 10, typically held in the last week of Term 1, offers students a valuable glimpse into the working world. It helps them explore careers, build confidence, and develop key employability skills. Importantly, it also allows students to start building industry and career connections that can benefit them in the future. As one of the few schools in the Western Area still offering this program, we’re proud to give our students an edge in understanding job prospects and making informed career choices.

VET courses offer a practical way for students to earn credits towards their SACE. These courses provide hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications, making them a valuable addition to traditional academic subjects. They help students build real-world skills and connections, setting them up for future success. For families, VET is a fantastic way to support a child’s career interests while completing their education.

Stackable VET lets students build their qualifications step-by-step. For instance, a student might start with a Certificate II in Construction Pathways and then add a White Card, which is essential for working on construction sites. This approach helps students gain valuable skills and credentials progressively, making it easier to achieve their career goals. It’s a flexible and practical choice for families looking to support their child’s future in the workforce.

“I started with a Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology, which led me to a School-Based Apprenticeship in Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. Balancing study with hands-on training helped me achieve my SACE early and gain valuable industry experience, setting me up for a career in automotive.”

“The VET course I undertook in 2023 was a Certificate II in Electrotechnology. I learnt lots about electromagnetism, basic circuits, using machinery, practising safety in the workplace, PPE and installing switches and outlets into a wall using many different methods to keep the switch/outlet fastened to the wall.

It was very insightful and made me more knowledgeable about general knowledge within electronics and construction and helped my work ethic as I could not get anything wrong on any tests or I would fail. I think the practical component motivates students to engage in the class work and be passionate about it. It also developed me to being in more adult environments as a lot more trust was put into me such as being allowed to leave the campus during lunch breaks.

It additionally gained me 50 credits on my SACE, which did benefit me as I failed one class in year eleven. “
