WHOS

WHOS
Woodville High Old Scholars

The Woodville High School Old Scholars Association exists for past WHS students and friends in continuing their connection with their old school and its history. Its purpose is to provide a means to meet and celebrate their school memories, reminiscing experiences of it through events and gatherings.
Currently the Association runs approximately three events during each year including an Annual Dinner, luncheons and excursions.
The Woodville High School Old Scholars Association was reformed in 1991 and has continued to thrive since then. Newsletters are sent throughout each year to almost 500 recipients, and its financial membership ($20/year) provides the main source of income to the Association. The Association generously supports the school through annual donations and is active in supporting the schools programmes.

NOTICE OF 2023 ANNUAL GENERAL MEEETING

NOTICE is given to members and friends of the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Woodville High School Old Scholars’ Association:

7.00pm Tuesday 14 March 2023
Woodville High School (staff room – enter via Actil Avenue)
(do not park in the school grounds as the gates are closed after 6.30pm)
AGENDA
  1. Welcome and apologies
  2. Reports
  3. Election of officers and committee
  4. Other business
  5. Vote of thanks and close

A number of committee members fell ill during 2022. To keep us fresh and spread the load, we are looking for one or two new committee members in 2023. Members interested in holding office or joining the committee should notify Secretary Di Cocks in advance of the AGM. Our committee meets bi-monthly and, working collectively, is not a heavy load.
Even if not nominating, our AGM is a chance for members and friends to network, ask questions, provide feedback, and learn more about our activities and those of the school.

WE ENDED 2022 IN GREAT STYLE

The final six weeks of 2022 were a great launching pad for our 2023 activities. Highlights were:
  • Association support for staff and students at the Senior and Middle School graduation ceremonies, including funding the Year 11 Dux and the Dawn Palmer Award.
  • An end of year lunch at Regency Park where a school ensemble presented an after-lunch music treat.
  • A small but enthusiastic group having a day out at The Bends on 6 November.
  • An end of year committee dinner with the School Principal.
I look forward to your continuing support in 2023.

President

A busy end of year approaches with Association activities, and in supporting the School’s Music Showcase (at Elder Hall) and School graduations (at Adelaide Town Hall).

‘The Bend’ Motorsport Excursion
The Association has organised a new and exciting springtime excursion. On Sunday 6 November 2022 you are invited to join us at ‘The Bend’ Motorsport Park (Tailem Bend) for a catered lunch and site tour of one of South Australia’s newest world-class sporting venues. The cost is $50 per adult.
Details were included in the flyer sent with our September Newsletter and are on our ‘Stay in touch’ link on the school website which you can access here. (https://woodvillehigh.sa.edu.au/woodville-high-old-scholars.html)
Due to venue requirements, numbers will be limited, and bookings must be made in advance. The strict deadline to book is Friday 14 October 2022. So please chat with family or friends who may be interested in motor racing or simply a lovely spring day out, and book NOW.
As our Association is covering in advance the cost of those who book, when booking you are committing to attending and making full payment to us by no later than event day. We strongly encourage you to make payment in advance by electronic funds transfer.

Booking and payment details are below.
Our activities will be held between 11am and 3pm. You can arrive earlier or stay later and enjoy the facility based on your private travel arrangements to Tailem Bend for the day.

End-of-Year Lunch
Our End-of-Year lunch is confirmed at Tiros Restaurant, Regency Park TAFE at 12 noon to 2.00pm Friday 2 December 2022, catered by students from the school of hospitality.
Bookings are now open. $30 per person (main course, dessert, tea/coffee; credit card payments only on the day). A great way to close the year. BOOK NOW.

Congratulations Kaylene (Kay) McFarlane
Feedback from members about sporting exploits continues. This newsletter we recognise Kaylene (Kay) McFarlane who tells us that she was fortunate to represent Australia at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Kay also had the honour of being inducted into the South Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Kay, and thanks for your support of the Association.
